Some fossils simply defy their natural origins and take on a surreal, aesthetic aura. This specimen is one of those rare instances. Even if you could care less about trilobite fossils, how can you not help to admire such a beautiful and rare occurrence of this specimen's preservation features? The size and beautiful color variances are truly mesmerizing. Not only is the color natural but you can the rare presence of an exterior edge of the slab that once made up the cliff face where this specimen was dug from. The edge shows a surface of the original weathered rock, also displaying the exact colors and hues found in the body of the trilobite! You could not ask for a more aesthetic and supreme, investment grade example of an Ordovician large asaphid trilobite from North Africa as this. Off to the right corner of the head of the trilobite and seen in the surrounding rock are traces of other trilobites emerging up through the surface of the gray matrix, in the same red color as this beautiful example. The color is truly something to see - an inviting mix of salmon reds and pinks mixed with splashes of crimson red, gold and brown. Due to minor damage sustained during the initial collecting of this trilobite, a small back portion of the tail (end right corner) became damaged and therefore, is reconstructed but the rest of the trilobite is 100% COMPLETE WITH NO RESTORATION.
We have spent considerable time in Morocco and over many years, have dealt with some of the finest specimens that have come from that region of the world but this is one of the few of this kind in this color we have ever seen. Because of the rarity of this fossil, it was meticulously lab-prepped to ensure the best possible presentation. The fossil is MUCH BETTER IN PERSON than the photos imply so be prepared to be duly impressed if you are the fortunate buyer of this piece! This is one of the most impressive specimens to display and certainly a rare and true investment-grade example. The profound look, color, size and preservation of this massive trilobite make for an awe-inspiring display.
