LEONASPIS
TRILOBITE LAB PREPPED -
Atlas Mountains,
Morocco
DEVONIAN
PERIOD: 395 - 345 million years ago
Probably
one of the most fascinating trilobite fossils and a valuable specimen
for education, this Leonaspis has a full split running down its thorax
lengthwise just to the right of its central lobe. This fossil is
the remains of a molted exoskeleton and the split is where the creature
emerged from this carapace to grow and develop another exoskeleton
similar to modern crabs and lobsters. Furthermore, it is a large
example with a superb very dark olive exoskeleton preserved.
The
Leonaspis is a beautiful and graceful spiny trilobite from the Devonian
limestone of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Any collection should
include an example of
this magnificent species. There's no mistaking this wonderful prehistoric
marine creature with its long, sweeping spines and tiny protrusions off
the free cheeks. With only the most minimal restoration to a few
of the shorter trialing spines, this specimen lacks any overall
restoration and is guaranteed authentic with its original, natural limestone matrix. Since all our inventory is
hand-selected to begin with, this specimen was chosen for lab preparation
based on its superb preservation and potential. This example is a top
choice and was carefully micro-blasted with state-of-the-art
equipment to truly bring out the best in the specimen. INCREDIBLE
MOLT FOSSIL WITH CHOICE PRESERVATION AND COLOR!
