LARGE DOUBLE LEONASPIS
AND CRYPHINA TRILOBITES LAB PREPPED -
Atlas Mountains,
Morocco
DEVONIAN
PERIOD: 395 - 345 million years ago
Probably
one of the most interesting double trilobite fossils and a great specimen
for education as well as display, this is a natural double occurrence of
two Devonian trilobites that co-existed in the same marine environment
almost 400 million years ago. We have a Leonaspis trilobite and a
partially exposed Cryphina trilobite on the same beautiful, air-blasted
large piece of limestone matrix from the Atlas Range in Southern
Morocco. The
Leonaspis is a beautiful and graceful spiny trilobite from the Devonian
Period. Any collection should
include an example of
this magnificent species. There's no mistaking this wonderful prehistoric
marine creature with its long, sweeping spines and tiny protrusions off
the free cheeks. Despite
some minor drawbacks, this is a superb example and makes for a excellent
display. The Leonaspis is very large and both it and the Cryphina
are a beautiful medium olive which contrast well with the famous pinkish
brown limestone. The Leonaspis is missing a portion of the left
cheek and left eye as well as a portion of the cephalonic spine but is
otherwise a nice example with intact delicate free cheek spine
frill. The Cryphina is also missing areas of its carapace but its
position is bizarre, on its side, and this is not readily
noticeable. The spines of the Leonaspis are all genuine and well
preserved and presented. This example
was carefully micro-blasted with state-of-the-art
equipment to truly bring out the best in the specimen. EXCELLENT
DOUBLE SPECIMEN AND FASCINATING DISPLAY OF TWO COHABITATING SPECIES!
