LANNACUS TRILOBITE -
Anti-
Atlas Region, Morocco
ORDOVICIAN
PERIOD: 510 million years ago
Amongst
the largest trilobites, the Lannacus sp. asaphid trilobite is a large and
rare trilobite from the
Anti-Atlas Ordovician deposits in southern Morocco. Seldom seen
anymore in the market, when they are offered, they are almost always
composites of a head, body and tail of different creatures or in many
cases, mostly fake. This extremely impressive specimen is entirely
one animal and has not been composited or heavily restored which makes
it truly a very rare specimen for this type. Realizing the quality
and rarity, we fully prepared the specimen in our lab in Orlando,
Florida and the result is spectacular! The entire creature is fully articulated and exhibits full
inflation along with wonderful detail and preservation. The coloring is completely
natural. The
eyes are both genuine and intact and are the most pronounced we have
ever seen in any of these specimens, VERY RARE!
Only approximately 3% restoration has been performed to the
frontal edge and free cheeks along with limited repairs to the body and pygidium.
BOTH genal spine tips
are GENUINE. The
limestone slab is the original repaired host rock of the trilobite.
Here's
a seldom seen trilobite that makes a fantastic display fossil for it's
rarity, natural condition and impressive size on its thick and original
rock matrix. This trilobite type is surely to appreciate as the
extremely limited supply continues to dwindle as evidenced by the
already lack of fine examples found in today's market.
