NATURAL
DOUBLE - MOROCCONITES WITH LEONASPIS
TRILOBITES LAB PREPPED
Atlas
Mountains, Morocco
DEVONIAN
PERIOD: 395 - 345 million years ago
This is a
naturally occurring double of a Morocconites malladoides trilobite
and a Leonaspis species trilobite. Unlike most multiple
trilobite fossils, these two have not been artificially assembled on the
host rock but were found side by side and prepared in the original
positions in which they died.
Morocconites
was a bizarre creature of the ancient
seas. As the "unicorn" of the Devonian trilobites, this
wonderful invertebrate is quite rare in genuine form. Due to the
fragile nature of the projecting point off the cephalon, it is VERY
common to recreate these by using putty or carving a fake one in the
rock and painting it black. The demand for authentic
Morocconites specimens is very strong and they are always in VERY limited supply. We
guarantee the genuineness of the spine. The
Leonaspis is a beautiful and graceful spiny trilobite from the
Devonian limestone of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Any
collection should not be lacking an example of this magnificent species.
There's no mistaking this wonderful prehistoric marine creature with its
long, sweeping spines and tiny protrusions off the free cheeks.
This is a fantastic
double example
of two species not commonly found together. This happens to be our
first one, actually! The pose of the
Morocconites is partially enrolled in a "death
pose". The Leonaspis is wonderfully outstretched as if
it is rushing to the rescue of the
Morocconites. Both creatures show fine natural preservation
and color. Both have been meticulously
lab prepped with micro-abrasive equipment to best expose the
delicate detail. Much more labor was involved but the end result is
a much finer trilobite with excellent detail. VERY
INTERESTING NATURALLY OCCURRING DOUBLE OF TWO SPECIES RARELY SEEN
TOGETHER
