GIANT ODONTOCHILE TRILOBITE LAB PREPPED - Hamar Laghdad Formation - Erfoud, Morocco

DEVONIAN PERIOD:  395 - 345 million years ago

The Odontochile species trilobites are of a graceful and beautiful design.  With their long genal spines and streamlined pygidium terminating in a fine point, it can easily be seen why trilobites have been called "the butterflies of the ancient seas".  The Odontochile hausmani species is the type without the scattered blunt and tiny spines of the Odontochile spinifera.

Just when you think you've seen it all, the show-stopping preparation job on this giant Odontochile hausmani should make you think twice.  It is beyond words and really must be seen in person to appreciate the dimensionality and work that went into this specimen to create such a dramatic display.  Prepared right here in our facility in Orlando, Florida, we spent considerable time on this masterpiece.  First off, a larger than usual block of the original limestone rock was kept with the trilobite and shaped like a giant triangle that stands on its side.  The huge Odontochile is off to one corner of the rock and appears as if it is crawling down the face.  The left genal spine wraps around the side of the rock and we have prepared this spine to protrude dramatically from the host limestone despite still being attached for practicality and strength against damage.  This is one very cool specimen that is not only large with a very large amount of the original rock, but it can be viewed and appreciated from many angles because of the orientation of the trilobite.

Some very important and desirable features to point out regarding the trilobite itself: the famous large eyes are present with fine compound eye detail, pygidial spine is completely exposed and 100% genuine, no restoration anywhere on the trilobite.  Unlike many others sold, this is not a composite creature of a couple of parts put together from multiple trilobites, the creature is complete and original.

If you want to boast of having one of the most impressive Odontochile trilobite examples on the block, then it will be hard to find a more fascinating and beautiful specimen as this.  A masterpiece!

A HUGE SPECIMEN THAT HAS BEEN PREPARED IN THE MOST IMPRESSIVE MANNER IMAGINABLE!
