RARE
LARGE GRADE 10 GREEN ODONTOCHILE (ZILCHOVASPIS)
TRILOBITE LAB PREPPED
Hamar
Laghdad Formation - Erfoud, Morocco
DEVONIAN
PERIOD: 395 - 345 million years ago
The
Odontochile trilobite, currently renamed ZILCHOVASPIS, is a graceful and beautiful
creature.
With its sweeping genal spines and streamlined pygidium terminating in a
fine point, it can easily be seen why trilobites have been called
"the butterflies of the ancient seas". The eyes are
large for this species and in fine states of preservation, display a
classic multi-lens structure prominently across the eye surfaces. This
species has become increasingly rare in the market today. Fine
quality examples are hard to come by and complete fakes are surfacing
with more frequency than ever, especially in online auctions like
Ebay. Of the examples you can find that are real, ones in this
rare olive green natural color are even more rare! This is a
stunning and very high grade specimen, rare by today's standard in
several aspects. Articulation and position on the matrix are
top-notch. We have prepared the matrix around the creature in a
manner that shows the trilobite's snout protruding off the matrix as
well as further define its carapace around its entire perimeter.
It will be hard to find a nicer example in this rare hue. The eye
detail is well preserved and displayed with only minor nicks to the
surfaces. Pygidial spine is complete and 100% authentic, an
important feature as these sometimes break and are lost in preparation,
thereby leading the preparator to fabricate one in its place. This
one has no such fabrication. Very large original pink limestone matrix displays creature
near its edge in a very fascinating display position! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! RARE
