COMURA TRILOBITE
LAB PREPPED
- Hamar
Laghdad Formation - Erfoud, Morocco
DEVONIAN
PERIOD: 395 - 345 million years ago
The
Comura trilobites are some of the most stunning types of trilobites to
have ever inhabited the prehistoric seas. They are wondrous
creatures with complex displays of spines and bizarre symmetry. It
must have been an amazing site to witness such marvels of creation
slowly crawling across the ocean floor. It is no wonder that
trilobites have been labeled "butterflies of the ancient
seas". Looking
like a cross between a pin cushion and an alien, this superb example of
the spiny comura trilobite encompasses untold hours of meticulous
preparation. All three rows of spines running down the lobes of
this trilobite and all other cephalonic spines have been exposed and are
free-standing. Completed in our own preparation facility here in
Orlando, this spectacular specimen features its full array free-standing
spines that have been exposed from their limestone rock matrix.
The creature is well posed on its original host rock and has been
prepared in a fantastic natural position, partially elevated with its
snout and right free cheek just protruding off the edge of the rock as
if attempting to crawl away. Aside
from the plethora of fake spiny trilobites on the market, this specimen
is authentic. Trilobites that sport variances in their color from
the different minerals in the rock, always command a premium for such
gem quality characteristics. This investment grade specimen is no
exception with very large portions of the body exhibiting creamy gold
hues to compliment the dark olive black carapace. Even several
spines also possess natural gold hues from this phenomena. LESS
THAN 1% RESTORATION - EXCEEDINGLY RARE AND UNDER-PRICED FOR SUCH A
SPECIMEN! This example is
a TOP GRADE
candidate for your advanced fossil collection or for any fossil exhibit,
whether public or private, that focuses on rarity and quality. ONE
OF THE MOST DIFFICULT AND TIME CONSUMING TRILOBITES TO PREPARE IN THIS
FASHION - EXTREMELY RARE SPECIES!
