COMURA TRILOBITE - Atlas Mountain Range, Southern Morocco DEVONIAN PERIOD: 395 - 345 million years ago The Comura trilobites are some of the most stunning types of trilobites to have ever inhabited the prehistoric seas. They are wondrous creatures with complex displays of spines and bizarre symmetry. It must have been an amazing site to witness such marvels of creation slowly crawling across the ocean floor. It is no wonder that trilobites have been labeled "butterflies of the ancient seas". This is a fantastic genuine specimen. In today's market, it is getting nearly impossible to locate fine grade authentic trilobites such as these in the torrent of fakes that abound. This stunning Comura trilobite makes for a fantastic display in its partially enrolled position, appearing as if it is still alive creeping over ancient sea bed. The entire cephalon and body is complete and with no restoration. Many of the spines are genuine with various positions restored, mainly on the tips of the spines. Rarely seen in these, both eyes retain their fabulous micro-detail of the lenses with some slight nicks on the surface only.
