LARGE SCABRISCUTELLUM TRILOBITE LAB PREPPED Hamar Laghdad Formation - Erfoud, Morocco DEVONIAN PERIOD: 395-345 million years ago For top-grade trilobite lovers, here is a Scabriscutellum trilobite that boasts of many beautiful and prize features. It was professionally prepared in our own facility here in Orlando, Florida with high-tech micro-abrasive equipment. It is a beautiful specimen with stunning work done in sculpting the original limestone matrix on which it is preserved. In this example, the creature died in an enrolled pose believed to be a defensive behavior of trilobites when danger was sensed. The preparation was conducted to make the creature appear as if it is slithering over a sharp peak on the prehistoric ocean sediment which is what the fossil host rock used to be. This specimen exhibits superb preservation and detail for this type and looks even better in person than in the photos above. The scutellid species of trilobites are not often available in fine grades as this one is. Furthermore, this is quite a large example and the carapace has been calcified in a stunning and completely natural dark olive green stone with speckled regions on the pygidium (tail) of dark blood red inclusions as shown in the last image above. Surface area of creature is fully cleaned and visible. Both eyes are in superb shape and intact as shown!!!
