SCABRISCUTELLUM TRILOBITE (HUGE!) - Hamar Laghdad Formation - Erfoud, Morocco

DEVONIAN PERIOD:  395-345 million years ago

Never before have we ever seen such an enormous example of this rare trilobite.  This amazing specimen is without a doubt, the largest Scabriscutellum trilobite we have ever seen or handled!  Most examples of this trilobite are not as long as HALF the width of this amazing specimen!  Wonderful natural black hue to the carapace and superb surface detail throughout entire body and head (cephalon).  BOTH eyes are intact and with fantastic preservation.  The creature is in a picture-perfect pose with a slight arch crawling over the matrix.  There is restoration to the pleural spines but pygidium and cephalon is intact so spines have been kept in scale with actual size.  The terraced surface on most areas of carapace is plainly visible as a testament to its authenticity.  

The Scabriscutellum trilobite is a rare species regardless of size.  When you consider the size of this example, you are looking at a specimen that probably will rarely if ever surface again for sale.  Our year-round resident partners at the source provide us with some rare opportunities to acquire fossils that are seldom if ever available on the open market.  This amazing fossil is a perfect example of the kind of rarity that can be had by the exclusive relationships in which we search for and acquire many of our specimens.
