ASTEROPYGE
TRILOBITE LAB PREPPED
- Mt. Issoumour -
Atlas Mountains, Morocco
DEVONIAN
PERIOD: 395 - 345 million years ago
This
fantastic example of the Asteropyge trilobite has been meticulously lab-prepped with
micro-abrasives to reveal superb detail and fine
preservation. Asteropyge trilobites were shallow-dwelling marine animals that crawled across the
prehistoric ocean floors nearly 400 million years ago. They
possess a unique, somewhat pointed cephalon with a single, small
occipital spine. Their pygidium is also pointed in shape and quite
intricate and they sport fairly large compound eyes. The pygidium
is slightly disarticulated from the thorax. This is not a
composite but a completely genuine and unaltered example. This
excellent fossil trilobite was hand-selected for its choice quality and
then carefully micro-blasted
with state-of-the-art equipment to truly bring out the best in the
specimen. There is absolutely no restoration of any kind and even
the finely detailed compound eyes can be clearly seen in BOTH
eyes. Another wonderful feature is the highly-prized natural and
original red limestone that the trilobite is on. This is only
found in the famous red layers of Mt. Issoumour
in the Atlas Mountains, Morocco. AN
