ASAPHUS MULTIPLE TRILOBITE CONCRETION POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE -
Ktaoua Formation, Morocco
ORDOVICIAN
PERIOD: 510 million years ago
First
off, let me open this description with the statement that what you are
seeing is a 100% totally natural specimen. Only a protective clear
coating preservant has been applied to the genuine fossil
creatures. The specimen is very large and includes BOTH sides of
the geode, consisting of 11 full and partial asaphus trilobites.
In the second photo at the top, you see the top half that mainly
comprises the negative impressions but at the bottom of that piece,
you'll see a beautiful complete positive of an asaphus trilobite, as
well.
Asaphus
specimens are one of the most either completely faked or heavily
restored species. The fact that this ultra-rarity has only been
repaired from breakage when cracked open, and not restored or touched in
any way, puts this specimen in a class often cliche'd but rarely
attainable: "museum quality". The museum, school or
advanced collector that becomes the owner of this specimen will have a
trilobite fossil that is seldom seen in person and only reserved for
photos in publications.
This is a
very substantial and rare piece. I feel I could go on and on but
will let the photos do the rest. Enjoy and congratulations to the
future owner.
