PARALEJURUS TRILOBITE
LAB PREPPED -
Atlas Mountains,
Morocco
DEVONIAN
PERIOD: 395-345 million years ago
Like
some armored vehicle right out of the next Star Wars movie, this
fascinating trilobite species, Paralejurus, would fit right in with any
science fiction fantasy. Nevertheless, this is a real creature
that once graced the prehistoric oceans of Northern Africa.
This
is a much more uncommon 'Type B" example of this trilobite known as Paralejurus dormitzeri.
In contrast to its more prevalent 'Type A" cousin, this variety possesses
a more tapered snout and the position of the eyes are closer
together. The pygidium on these also runs larger in relation to
the rest of the creature compared to the 'Type A' kind.
Wonderfully
outstretched and fully inflated,
this is a professionally
prepared example using high-tech
micro-abrasive equipment to fully expose every bit of detail.
The end result was worth the extra expense and labor and has produced
this fascinating, fine quality fossil. A
