PARALEJURUS TRILOBITE
LAB PREPPED -
Atlas Mountains,
Morocco
DEVONIAN
PERIOD: 395-345 million years ago
Like
some armored vehicle right out of the next Star Wars movie, this
fascinating trilobite species, Paralejurus dormitzeri, would fit right in with any
science fiction fantasy. Nevertheless, this is a real creature
that once graced the prehistoric oceans of what is now the Atlas
Mountain Range in Northern Africa.
This Paralejurus
is nicely poised on the edge of its original limestone matrix as if
crawling off the edge. Shown prepped on its
original warm yellow limestone host rock, the
trilobite features a natural dark olive color to its shell which
contrasts wonderfully with its base. Ventral portion of head has
been partially exposed underneath in the preparation of this
example.
