CROTALOCEPHALUS
TRILOBITE LAB PREPPED Atlas Mountain Range (Northern Sahara Desert), South Morocco
DEVONIAN
PERIOD: 395 - 345 million years ago
This is a
superb and quite large example that has been carefully micro-blasted with state-of-the-art
equipment to truly bring out the best in the specimen. The detail
is superb and the only restoration is a very minute tip (2 mm long) of one
of the pygidial spines. Otherwise, the entire creature is
completely natural and exhibits the most beautiful dark black-olive hue,
also natural. Even the tip of the head (cephalon) shows tiny black
spots that are inherent to the creature and were found this way as seen
in the last photo. Left side has some erosion, right side is
choice! Detail is found in this example that most could only hope
for. A recommended genuine specimen. A bizarre
and fascinating species, the Crotalocephalus (Crotalocephalina) trilobite is an ugly yet, desirable addition to any collector's
cabinet. With it's fat, bulbous snout, tiny eyes and strange
raised surfaces down its lobes, the Crotalocephalus is one of our personal favorites of all trilobites.
4.95" long and 2.25" wide with original matrix,
creature is 3.5" in length
