PARADOXIDES TRILOBITE - Anti-Atlas Mountain Range, South Morocco

CAMBRIAN PERIOD:  543 - 510 million years ago

There are three major locations in Morocco where the largest trilobite called Paradoxides are found.  One area is known for its orange specimens, one for the more rare dark brown specimens and one where the rare brownish black specimens are found.  This example is one of those dark brown examples and it is a beautiful and VERY rare fossil Paradoxides.   

Nowadays, ALL you find in the market are junk Paradoxides.  Through an exclusive relationship with the prime source of prospectors mining the region, we have been able to consistently offer the finest grade Paradoxides ever seen on the market.  This trilobite is an example of that quality and represents a rare and very valuable fossil.  

This remarkable Paradoxides can boast of having only 4% restoration, limited to areas on the genal spines, right free cheek and tips of the left pleural spines.  It has been lab-prepped here in our facility in Orlando, Florida.  All surrounding matrix has been cleaned for a very visually striking presentation.  

Special features worth noting are the completely intact, detailed impressions of ALL pygidial spines and pygidium (RARE!), full well preserved glabella and intact left eye with the fullest inflation and relief we have ever seen!  This premium grade trilobite specimen is of the finest we currently offer and is highly recommended for its uniqueness and rarity.  This spectacular example was part of a very rare find several years ago.  A seam was discovered that produced the some of the finest Paradoxides specimens ever seen.  We were extremely fortunate to secure the entire find and this prize fossil was amongst that group.  It is most probable that we will never come across such a discovery like this again so we strongly urge anyone wanting a choice grade version of Paradoxides from the Sahara to act on this one! 

The vast majority of Paradoxides specimens on the market are either heavily restored or completely fabricated.  This specimen is a true rarity and of a type that is rarely encountered in any dealer's inventory.
