"MOUSTACHE"
ASAPHUS TRILOBITE - Sahara Desert, Morocco
ORDOVICIAN
PERIOD: 510 million years ago This
is the largest I have seen of this type, period! It is massive and
has fantastic detail and depth. This bizarre trilobite is an
asaphid with the rare appendages that make it look like it has a large
moustache. The appendages have been restored in some areas as can
be expected with such a rarity but there are areas where the natural
fossilized appendages are peeking through and intact which you never
ever find in these. The pictures of the head (cephalon) and tail (pygidium)
show superb natural fossilized surfaces. The picture of the tail
even displays a striated area on the creature where some of the surface
has been removed. This is proof-positive of the authenticity of
the region as this actually shows the sedimentary settling and formation
of the fossil. This
specimen is a special rare listing and the above pictures are of the
actual item offered. Excavated
from the Sahara Desert, Morocco this showpiece is of the
rarest quality. Unlike typical specimens of this type that are
completely faked, this is a genuine fossilized creature of extreme
rarity. Furthermore, it is a monster-size example that is sure to
be one of the most prized additions to any school, museum or private
collection. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! 20"
long and 18" wide with original matrix, animal 13.75"
in length and 17.2" in width SOLD
