FINE GRADE LARGE PSYCHOPYGE TRILOBITE Atlas Mountain Range, South Morocco DEVONIAN PERIOD: 395 - 345 million years ago An awesome, bizarre and highly-prized trilobite species with its strange shovel-like protrusion off the anterior of the cephalon (head). It has been suggested that this appendage was used to root up food from the prehistoric ocean floor. Today, a genuine Psychopyge trilobite with a 100% natural and genuine rostrum is a super rarity. This wonderful specimen is just that! Despite our year round resident partners at the source, over the course of the last year we have only been able to secure an extremely limited quantity of such quality genuine examples as this one is. The Psychopyge, because of its high price tag and rarity, is one of most faked trilobites of the spiny varieties and VERY RARELY is the nose genuine even if the rest of the creature is!!! We have lab-prepped this wonderful specimen ourselves and can attest to its superb condition as well as authenticity. The specimen is completely genuine (INCLUDING THE ROSTRUM) with the exception of restoration of the right genal spine and two tips of pygidial spines. On a numeric scale, this would amount to LESS than 1% restoration, that's it! The close-up images demonstrate the pustulose surface on the rostrum that only a genuine rostrum will possess. The last image shows the fantastic multi-lens detail of the eyes. Naturally lustrous and finely detailed carapace is a trait of ONLY genuine specimens. Fakes have chalky, rough surfaces unless they are painted with a glossy sealer. Fakes also lack the extremely fine SURFACE detail that can be seen above. The pose is a fantastic "flying" crawl and makes for a super display of the creature in all its splendor.
