GRADE 10 INVESTMENT CLASS 5.1 INCH
CHATOYANT SILVER BROWN
MEGALODON TOOTH FROM THE ST. MARY'S RIVER
St. Mary's River - Georgia, U.S.A.
MIOCENE
to PLIOCENE PERIOD: 23.3 - 1.81 million years ago
The
massive Megalodon shark is one of the largest and most fearsome
predators that ever existed in the ancient seas. Owning a genuine,
fine quality tooth from these terrible creatures of prehistory is the
pride of many collectors. This fine quality tooth came from the
famous shark known scientifically as
Carcharocles megalodon
- the largest and deadliest
shark that ever lived!
First and
foremost, nothing said here can convey the true beauty of this massive
INVESTMENT CLASS specimen! It is probably one of the most
impressive and interesting LARGE TOP-GRADE Megalodon teeth we have
received in quite a while. (If we personally collected as almost
all Megalodon teeth dealers do, we would keep this one for ourselves.
As we do NOT personally collect, we pass on every "keeper" and the
number of amazing specimens in our sold archives will show this.)
The chatoyant metallic phenomena seen in the amazing prize enamel, along
with the weight, sharpness and overall intact condition of this PRIZE
Megalodon tooth MUST be experienced in person to believe. There
are fine large Megalodon teeth out there and there are beautiful color
teeth but to have both is rare when it comes to the best quality.
What sets this giant tooth FURTHER apart on the rarity scale is the
bizarre and surreal REFLECTIVITY of the enamel. It is a splattered
mix of intense silver, bronze, chocolate brown and tapioca - all which
dance around INSIDE the enamel's glossy surface as the tooth is rotated
in strong light. If this tooth was a junker, this color and
feature alone would be impressive but this tooth is THE FINEST GRADE 10
CLASS Megalodon tooth so it is a real treat to experience!
TO SUM IT UP, THE
TOOTH LOOKS FAR BETTER THAN THESE PHOTOS INDICATE!
Megalodon
teeth of this color come from very few sites in the Southeast U.S. and
those sites are closely guarded and kept secret by the divers that know
them. One of the most famous rare sites for producing Megalodon
teeth with stunning color and patterns in the enamel is the St. Mary's
River in Georgia, U.S.A..
It is a tooth like this that
put the St. Mary's River on the Megalodon tooth Map! Collectors
that are familiar with the unique set of circumstances regarding this
famous deposit will appreciate just exactly what is being offered here.
The iron based minerals in the substrate are responsible for a rare
occurrence of dark rich reddish brown Megalodon teeth. Oddly
enough, some of these teeth develop large open spot patterns in the
enamel and it is this feature along with the rich red/brown tones that
really drives the passion for these highly unusual and rare specimens.
This
specific tooth shows prized detailed serrations on all cutting edges
with only minor natural feeding wear. Most rare is the COMPLETE
100% intact edges down near the base of the serrations. Two photos
above show each side and the stunning Grade 10 serration detail that
runs all the way to the root on BOTH SIDES. The enamel is very
dense and glossy with previously mentioned RARE features of chatoyance
and metallic color blends. HIGHLY DESIRABLE rare mottling and
spotting patterns are present and a trait of the unique river site where
it was collected. Tip is complete - root is complete and dense,
also very rare in this size. Megalodon teeth that hit the 5 inch
mark are considered huge from there on up. This specimen not only
hits it, it EXCEEDS it and can boast of a quality that few teeth possess
IN ANY SIZE. We guarantee that this fine specimen has absolutely
NO REPAIR AND NO
RESTORATION - a
serious problem today in the Megalodon tooth market when it comes to
large, impressive examples.
WE ABSOLUTELY CAN RECOMMEND
THIS SPECIMEN TO THE MOST DISCRIMINATING COLLECTOR. IT IS NOT ONLY
LARGE AND OF A SUPERB GRADE, IT HAS VERY FEATURES IN THE ENAMEL.
Megalodon
teeth found in rivers are almost always heavily eroded and worn from the
high energy environment in which they were subjected to. They
usually have dull, sand-blasted enamel, peeling back from the
core. The roots are often damaged and the color is almost always
BLACK - the most common color for river teeth in South
Carolina.
This
tooth is amongst the finer grade Megalodon teeth offered on the market. We GUARANTEE NO
RESTORATION AND NO REPAIR of any kind to this specimen.
At a length of 52 feet
and weighing in excess of 60 tons, Carcharocles megalodon was the second
largest predator that ever existed on this planet, the largest being the
sperm whale. Megalodon was larger and heavier than T. rex.
Scientific reconstructions of this shark estimate the dorsal fin 5.5
feet tall, the pectoral fins at 10 feet in length and the tail over 12
feet high. If you were unfortunate enough to have a megalodon swim
over you, the pectoral fins would measure 30 feet from tip to tip with a
torso in excess of 10 feet thick! The jaws were so large that
this shark would be able to swallow a Rhinoceros whole. A
predator this size would have most likely fed on large marine
vertebrates, especially whales. Fossil teeth have been found in
excess of 7 inches in length! Megalodon teeth are similar in
geometry to the modern White Shark and scientists are still passionately
divided on the origin of the two species and if megalodon is related to
the modern white shark. It is also not fully understood why this
giant killer became extinct but we can all be glad it is. A day at
the beach just wouldn't be what it is today!
