COLORFUL
LATERAL PALEOCARCHARODON ( PYGMY WHITE SHARK ) TOOTH
Khouribga,
Morocco
PALEOCENE
PERIOD: 60 million years ago
This is a
choice grade fossil tooth of Paleocarcharodon orientalis, otherwise
known as the Pygmy White shark. It has superbly preserved
serrations without feeding wear or damage! With it rich, glossy gem enamel
and surreal pattern, it is a very rare and prized
specimen in today's typical market of junk and patched together
Paleocarcharodon teeth. The entire tooth including the root is 100%
GENUINE with NO
RESTORATION and NO
REPAIR. Even the cusplets are intact and choice as seen
above.
The classic characteristics
of fossil teeth from Paleocarcharodon orientalis are the irregular serrations and complex cusplets, also serrated.
Paleocarcharodon was a dead-end in the evolution of ancient sharks,
leaving no ancestor after its extinction. While these teeth seem
similar to the modern-day Great White albeit with cusplets, there is no relation at all in
the lineage and development of either species. The
Paleocarcharodon teeth we sell are guaranteed
to have all genuine roots,
now a rare feature in today's marketplace when it comes to these rare
fossil shark teeth.
The majority
of Paleocarcharodon teeth on the market are
cleverly repaired with fake or repaired roots made from a paste of
ground up roots of other shark teeth. To the untrained eye, this is
very difficult to spot. We DO NOT sell teeth of this shark
that have ANY restoration. These teeth are literally a dime a
dozen and worthless in our opinion. If you see these teeth sold
where the price seems too good to be true, it is almost guaranteed that
the root has some or complete fabrication. Even at the source, the
miners know what complete teeth are worth.
