CARCHARODON
CARCHARIAS ( GREAT WHITE SHARK ) TOOTH
- Undisclosed River,
South Carolina, U.S.A.
MIOCENE
to PLIOCENE PERIOD: 15 - 1.81 million years ago
As this
listing is being posted, this is our only fossil Great White shark tooth
for sale. Why? In nearly every case, we have yet to see one
that is really nice and in trying to keep with only listing the finest
examples of the different species, there are very few that would really
fit in with our other offerings. This tooth has changed all
that. Not only is it exceedingly rare because of it's superb
condition, but it is LARGE! At OVER
2.5", this is one of the largest fossil great white teeth we have
encountered. According to scientific theory in measurements of
both the crown height and root width of this anterior tooth, the Great
White shark this tooth came from is estimate to be between 18 to 19 feet
in length! This is an absolute MONSTER-SIZED Great White shark!
This
tooth boasts of superb preservation with extra-fine quality serrations,
dark blue-gray enamel, complete root and perfectly intact tip. The
close-up image of this is not to be missed! There is only one
slight negative, there is a very small region to the lower right of the
crown where it meets the root that is missing. This is natural and
was caused by feeding damage when the shark was alive. The
otherwise pristine overall condition shows this tooth was not exposed to
harsh environmental conditions to have caused such damage and this
feature is not uncommon on fossil teeth from large apex predator
sharks.
This
tooth is categorized in the HIGHEST collector grade for fossil Great
White Shark teeth. The tooth is even better than it shows in the images.
We GUARANTEE NO
RESTORATION AND NO REPAIR of any kind to this rare specimen.
