RARE
3.65" MASSIVE
AURICULATUS SHARK TOOTH
Santee Limestone Formation -
Dorchester Co., South Carolina, U.S.A.
EOCENE PERIOD:
45 - 38 million years ago
C. auriculatus is
now extinct and was the first killer shark in the lineage of extinct Great White Sharks.
It considered by some to be the first ancestor of the massive extinct
killer shark - Megalodon. Most noteworthy on the teeth of the auriculatus
shark are the pronounced
cusplets flanking the crown. Fine grade teeth are very rare for
this shark species and actually, far less abundant than most other
prehistoric large sharks.
This is quite a rare
offering and will
likely be THE largest Auriculatus tooth we will EVER offer
as it is TWICE the normal size for this species!!! In
comparing the rarity of the size of this tooth with the relativity of a
Megalodon tooth,
this specimen would be the equivalent of a Megalodon tooth approaching
the 7 INCH class, the maximum size category for Megalodon. If you
have ever looked at the quality and respective price of a Megalodon
tooth in that maximum size, you can easily spend well into tens of
thousands of dollars for a tooth that is so horrible looking, you wonder
who would want it. Auriculatus fossil shark teeth OVER 3.5" are in
the same maximum size that Auriculatus grew to. Point being,
what is rare about this
amazing specimen is its SIZE and equally important, it IS COMPLETE WITH
BOTH SIDE CUSPLETS INTACT AND HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED OR RESTORED and is
as it was found!
If you are an experienced
fossil shark tooth collector, you will already know what we are saying
here. To own a natural and intact Auriculatus tooth of this size
is definitely a specimen to brag about owning!
A definite INVESTMENT-CLASS auriculatus tooth,
serrations are pronounced down the sides and BOTH side cusps are intact.
Serrations are very thick and robust with light natural feeding wear.
Original feeding nick on tip with natural feeding wear present indicates
this tooth was subject to protracted use countless kills and attacks
when the shark was alive roughly 40 million years ago, and subject to
intense punishment in the jaws of one of the largest size Auriculatus
sharks of the Eocene. Attractive olive and sea foam green enamel
with light brown root. Unlike most Auriculatus teeth, the side
cusplets have never been broken and hence, are not glued back on.
This specimen
is especially rare and outclasses most teeth in size that you will find in the
marketplace, by far. Its pure natural state is also a plus. Guaranteed
NO
RESTORATION OR REPAIR. VERY highly recommended for the collector
of the RAREST shark teeth one can find.
MOST
LIKELY THE LARGEST AURICULATUS TOOTH WE WILL EVER OFFER - THIS
MONSTER-SIZE SPECIMEN IS TWICE THE NORMAL SIZE!!!
