ISURUS HASTALIS ( EXTINCT GREAT WHITE SHARK ) TOOTH - Ridgeville, South Carolina, U.S.A.

PLIOCENE PERIOD:  5 - 1.81 million years ago

From an newly discovered land site in South Carolina, this high-grade pearly plum, silvery gold Isurus hastalis tooth has been beautifully preserved with unique features.  The crown and root are complete and the enamel displays a strong chatoyance phenomena.  There is NO REPAIR AND NO RESTORATION, tooth is completely natural and genuine with no enhancement.

This prehistoric shark is a member of the White Shark family.  Teeth from Isurus hastalis look remarkably similar to the modern Great White Shark less the serrations.  Little is known about this species and it is classified in the genus Isurus (Mako) due to its characteristic smooth edges.  Some consider this shark the "Grandfather of the Great White".
