ULTRA RARE URSUS ARCTOS PREHISTORIC BROWN BEAR COMPLETE INTACT ULNA LOWER ARM BONE FROM EUROPE Gravel Quarry - Southeastern Poland PLEISTOCENE PERIOD: 250,000 - 20,000 years ago Alongside the true Cave Bear from Europe, Ursus spelaeus, lived the Brown Bear, Ursus arctos. Ursus arctos was one of the predators feared and avoided by prehistoric humans like Neanderthals and Cro-Magnon peoples during the final Ice Age in Europe. Ursus arctos moved from Asia into Europe around 250,000 years ago and unlike the Cave Bear, survived the end of the Ice Age but in Poland (where this fossil was found), the Brown Bear is only estimated to be around 100 animals and is near extinction. Fossils from Ursus arctos are very rare and this is the SECOND specimen we have to offer for sale, ever in our history. The bones were found in the same quarry and deposit a complete skull was found. That skull now resides in a museum. For a comprehensive fossil bear exhibit and the ultimate addition to an Ice Age display, this is an extremely important and recommended specimen. It is not hard to secure fossils of the Cave Bear but to add the Brown Bear to your collection, is a very rare chance discovery when the fossils are found. This is a ulna bone or lower arm bone of Ursus arctos. It was collected from a gravel quarry rich in Ice Age fossils of this period. On rare occasions, bones of this extinct prehistoric bear are found in this deposit along with fossils of the Southern Mammoth of the inter-glacial period in Europe. The bone is in incredible preservation and is a light Swiss chocolate brown color. In comparison of this bone with similar bones of Ursus spelaeus, a more gracile, elongate and less robust anatomy can be seen versus the opposite in U. spelaeus. Highly recommended!
