GRADE 10 UNBROKEN 3 INCH CARCHARODONTOSAURUS
TOOTH
Tegana
Formation, Kem Kem (Northern Sahara Desert), Morocco
LATE
CRETACEOUS PERIOD: 96 - 66 million years ago
Simply
a beauty of a dinosaur tooth! At 3 inches, this is a choice
grade UNBROKEN Carcharodontosaurus tooth. From tip to base, the
tooth is solid and without any repair. The tooth has matrix still
attached to the partial root and base but crown has been cleaned of this
silicified matrix to reveal a spectacular specimen in rare preservation. The original pointed tip is
present with excellent evidence of slight natural feeding wear on the
point and leading edge caused when the dinosaur was still alive. Both
sides are solid and the enamel is a beautiful bright burning orange hue. The serrations are
crisp on the trailing edge and plainly visible above in the photos.
Teeth like this are VERY scarce now and the site is hardly producing any good
qualities after decades of extensive, high pressure digging efforts.
NO REPAIR and NO
RESTORATION. A
tooth like this is still a bargain for the largest meat-eating dinosaur
that ever lived. If this were a T. rex tooth in this condition,
price would approach $10,000. It is highly probable that in the
coming years, the market will catch up to these teeth. No where
can you acquire a large therapod fossil dinosaur tooth for this price
like you can for this dinosaur!
It is our opinion that
fossil Carcharodontosaurus dinosaur teeth of size and top quality are
the biggest bargain and most undervalued fossil in the dinosaur tooth
market today. Past experience has already shown a trend in rapidly
escalating prices over the last 6 years of large, top grade teeth.
It is logical that this will continue on a faster scale since the supply
is so limited now and collector buyer base keeps growing.
This
tooth was found several years ago when fine condition teeth were more
prevalent. If you are looking for a well-preserved tooth in this
size class, this is a highly recommended choice.
Quality Carcharodontosaurus
teeth such as this example represent one of the fastest appreciating
values in dinosaur teeth on the market.
Carcharodontosaurus
saharicus is the largest meat-eating dinosaur known to have ever lived on
the Earth (along with Giganotosaurus - now believed to be the same
creature). Before its discovery, Tyrannosaurus rex was thought to be
the largest but this monster
exceeds T. rex in size and really is the
"king"! Carcharodontosaurus had a massive tail,
stout body mass, and heavy bones.
Its arms were short and its hands had three fingers with sharp claws.
Carcharodontosaurus
grew up to 45 feet long, had a 6 foot skull and is estimated to have
weighed eight tons.
It had large, powerful
jaws with long, serrated, sharp teeth up to 8 inches long. Carcharodontosaurus was
larger than T. rex but its brain was smaller.
Carcharodontosaurus is so closely related to Giganotosaurus (not to T.
rex) that research now is leaning towards
Although parts of these
large carnivorous dinosaurs were discovered some time ago, their huge size
has just recently come to light. The first almost complete
Carcharodontosaurus discovered was being studied in Germany but was
destroyed by Allied bombing during WWII. A recently unearthed
specimen was reported to have the largest skull of any therapod known at
six feet in length,
larger than T. rex!
