INTACT RARE POSITION ANTERIOR CARCHARODONTOSAURUS DINOSAUR TOOTH WITH CHOICE SERRATIONS

Tegana Formation, Kem Kem (Northern Sahara Desert), Morocco

LATE CRETACEOUS PERIOD:  96 - 66 million years ago

This is a rare position anterior tooth from the largest predatory dinosaur known, Carcharodontosaurus saharicus.  This beautiful specimen being offered here is UNBROKEN, with NO REPAIR and NO RESTORATION.  The anterior teeth were used to snatch and grab escaping prey so are more robust to sustain that initial strike of the dinosaur when it hits its prey.  Light natural feeding wear on the top leading edge but incredibly crisp serrations on both edges.  A very reasonably priced specimen of fine quality and scarce front jaw location to augment a DINOSAUR TOOTH collection from this dreaded monster of the past.

Carcharodontosaurus saharicus is the largest meat-eating dinosaur known to have ever lived on the Earth (along with Giganotosaurus - now believed to be the same creature).  Before its discovery, Tyrannosaurus rex was thought to be the largest but this monster exceeds T. rex in size and really is the "king"!  Carcharodontosaurus had a massive tail, stout body mass, and heavy bones.  Its arms were short and its hands had three fingers with sharp claws.  Carcharodontosaurus grew up to 45 feet long, had a 6 foot skull and is estimated to have weighed eight tons.

It had large, powerful jaws with long, serrated, sharp teeth up to 8 inches long.  Carcharodontosaurus was larger than T. rex but its brain was smaller.  Carcharodontosaurus is so closely related to Giganotosaurus (not to T. rex) that research now is leaning towards

Although parts of these large carnivorous dinosaurs were discovered some time ago, their huge size has just recently come to light.  The first almost complete Carcharodontosaurus discovered was being studied in Germany but was destroyed by Allied bombing during WWII.  A recently unearthed specimen was reported to have the largest skull of any therapod known at six feet in length, larger than T. rex!
