TRICERATOPS TOOTH IN
ORIGINAL MATRIX
Lance
Formation, Wyoming, U.S.A.
LATE
CRETACEOUS PERIOD: 68 - 65 million years ago
Collected
from the famous Lance Formation of Northwestern U.S.A., this is a
very high quality tooth from the well known ceratopsian dinosaur Triceratops. This is an excellent educational
specimen that is in uncommon form with some of the original matrix it
was found in still attached. It is a tooth that was worn in
feeding and ejected from the dinosaur's jaw. The tooth is not
repaired but is intact and complete with age fissures but not complete
breaks. This dinosaur fossil tooth would make an interesting
compliment to Hell Creek dinosaur fossils since this specimen comes from
a similar period but different formation of some of the most well-known
North American dinosaurs from the Late Cretaceous.
NO REPAIR AND NO RESTORATION. Highly
recommended! Triceratops is the most
famous of the great horned dinosaurs. This plant-eating group has been found in
the fossil record in greater abundance than all the other varieties.
A full grown Triceratops is estimated to have weighed 11 tons, heavier
than a modern African bull elephant. Its skull was 6.5 feet long
with a pair of brow horns that exceeded 3 feet in length.
