UNWORN JUVENILE TRICERATOPS
TOOTH IN ORIGINAL MATRIX WITH FULL CROWN AND OTHER ASSOCIATED FOSSIL
BONES
Lance
Formation, Wyoming, U.S.A.
LATE
CRETACEOUS PERIOD: 68 - 65 million years ago
Collected
from the famous Lance Formation of Northwestern U.S.A., this is a
very RARE high quality tooth from the well known ceratopsian dinosaur Triceratops. This is an excellent educational
specimen that is in uncommon form still embedded in a large block of the
original matrix it was found in. The tooth is a rare example with
complete unworn crown. Because of the presence of the unworn
crown, it tells us the dinosaur died with this tooth in its jaws.
There are also MANY related fossil bones in the matrix with it.
Near the tooth is a large armored gar scale. On the front side
there is a complete limb bone. On one side is an impression of
fossil wood with great detail as seen above. All around, this is
just a superb and fascinating fossil aside from the top grade juvenile
Triceratops tooth peeking out one edge. This superb
example was not glued to a piece of stabilized dirt but is exactly as it
was found still embedded in the hard sandstone Cretaceous matrix.
The tooth is intact and complete with a beautiful dense surface.
This dinosaur fossil matrix specimen would make an interesting
compliment to Hell Creek dinosaur fossils since this specimen comes from
a similar period but different formation of some of the most well-known
North American dinosaurs from the Late Cretaceous.
NO REPAIR AND NO RESTORATION. Highly
recommended! Triceratops is the most
famous of the great horned dinosaurs. This plant-eating group has been found in
the fossil record in greater abundance than all the other varieties.
A full grown Triceratops is estimated to have weighed 11 tons, heavier
than a modern African bull elephant. Its skull was 6.5 feet long
with a pair of brow horns that exceeded 3 feet in length.
