CRETACEOUS RIBBONFISH JAWS WITH TEETH IN MATRIX

Phosphate Deposits - Khouribga, Morocco

LATE CRETACEOUS PERIOD:  96 - 66 million years ago

The seas of the late cretaceous must have been a terrifying place.  Imagine ferocious ribbon-like fish with jaws of fangs and needle sharp teeth such as the set pictured here.  This rare set of Eutrichiurides jaws with original teeth were found in the phosphate mines of  Khouribga, Morocco.  Matrix also has several fossil bones embedded in the matrix that can be seen from the front and back.  NO RESTORATION OR FABRICATION.  All original as collected.

The Eutrichiurides was from the snake mackeral family and was a long and slender, sword-shaped fish that struck it's prey with deadly, lightning quick attacks.  Seldom is heard about this predator outside of paleontological studies.
