QUARRY FOSSIL SITES
The Haile Quarry fossil sites located in Northern Florida, U.S.A. have
been producing an astonishing wealth of vertebrate fossils for well over
50 years. The sites have been a crown jewel in United States
vertebrate paleontology discoveries since the 1930's when quarrying
operations revealed the first fossils. This exceptional specimen
comes from the 7C site and was legally collected years ago. It is
a complete, perfect articulated digit with all bones and an intact claw from a species of
Water Turtle,
Trachemys sp.. There is
NO RESTORATION, NO REPAIR
and NO MODERN DAMAGE.
Haile fossil sites 7C and
15A, dating back to the Late Pliocene, produced many specimens of turtle
varieties. These discoveries allowed scientist to better
understand Florida's modern turtles. These two Haile sites yielded
some species of turtle specimens for the first time. Many turtle
species have been described on the basis of Haile specimens.
