TYLOSAURUS JUVENILE UPPER JAW - North Sulphur
River - Texas, U.S.
LATE CRETACEOUS
PERIOD: 96 - 66 million years ago
Mosasaur
fossil remains from the United States are very rare and often so
poorly preserved, they are indistinguishable from the rocks they lie
with. Occasionally, a vertebra is found here and there but there's
nothing interesting about a single vertebra, quite frankly.
This spectacular
left maxilla (upper jaw) is from a Tylosaurus infant. It has not
been restored or filled in any way.
It has only been repaired from the pieces as they were found.
Remnants from nine teeth still remain rooted in the jaw with two
complete teeth still intact. The teeth are a fantastic charcoal
black and the bone is a medium and light brown, a gorgeous color
combination with the black teeth. We were going to restore the remaining areas that are
missing in the bone but since so much is there that is real, we feel it
would have detracted from the value as a genuine specimen and taken away
from its great scientific value. This
is our first instance of showcasing a mosasaur fossil from a juvenile
creature and our first fine quality mosasaur fossil from a U.S. source. The
Tylosaurus was the one of the largest mosasaur types known and one of
the largest and most terrifying marine predators that ever lived.
A full grown Tylosaur grew to lengths in excess of 30 feet!
This is a very rare opportunity to acquire an
untouched and recognizable North American mosasaur fossil. It is a
fascinating and highly recommended specimen.
If you purchase for a museum,
educational facility or are an advanced private collector, this is a
choice grade specimen surely
to be a proud and valued addition. HIGHLY
RECOMMENDED AND RARE!
