TRICERATOPS TRANSITIONAL CERVICAL VERTEBRA - Hell
Creek Formation, Montana, U.S.A.
LATE
CRETACEOUS PERIOD: 65 million years ago
This
vertebra is from the neck region on the spine just where the typical
larger back vertebra are starting to get smaller to transition into the
different shape cervical vertebra. Compared to the larger thoracic
vertebra, this bone runs smaller despite it coming from a large
dinosaur. With
its fantastic state of preservation, this dinosaur vertebra has not had
any process or feature artificially recreated. It has only been
put back together from the pieces as it was found. Minor regions
of repair have been blended and only amount to approximately 1 - 2% of
the overall bone. The bone's color is natural and the lighter
contrasting region at the centrum was caused by that portion of the bone
protruding up from the ground and being bleached from the elements prior
to discovery. A clear protective chemical hardener has been
applied to protect the bone. This is an incredibly well-preserved
vertebra and is in much finer condition that most of any type of
dinosaur bones we have seen. The actual bone is much better in
person than the images appear. Legally collected dinosaur bone
fossils of this quality are fast becoming nearly impossible to acquire! Many
of the vertebra on the market require considerable restoration and
despite some of their large impressive appearances, even entire spines
(processes) are either recreated out of putty or an unrelated spine from
ANOTHER vertebra is attached and blended to appear correct. We
have seen some true butchery and trickery in dinosaur bones, especially
on Ebay. One seller was observed selling numerous Triceratops horns where
each horn is cleverly assembled from sections of many different
Triceratops creatures to appear as one whole horn. There is a
great deal of hidden work going on in this field and business so it is
critical for you the buyer, to be fully aware and only deal with
reputable dealers with a high-profile and presence in the market, not
part-time hobbyists who have nothing to lose should their game be
discovered. As with every specimen we sell, we fully and
unconditionally guarantee not only for the specimen to be authentic and
as described, but to be properly identified. Triceratops is the most
famous of the great horned dinosaurs. This group has been found in
the fossil record in greater abundance than all the other varieties.
A full grown Triceratops is estimated to have weighed 11 tons, heavier
than a modern African bull elephant. Its skull was 6.5 feet long
with a pair of brow horns that exceeded 3 feet in length. For
a genuine AND LEGALLY COLLECTED complete large dinosaur bone from this
world-famous deposit, this
specimen represents
the finest and rarest quality available and is a MUST HAVE for any true
dinosaur aficionado.
