SET
OF THREE DIFFERENT SPECIES OF PLIOCENE SEA SNAIL SHELL FOSSILS
Sarasota County, Florida, U.S.A.
PLIOCENE
PERIOD: 5 - 1.8 million years ago
Known for its splendid
array of gastropod fossils, Florida is home to many fossil shell species
in abundance. The nature of finding a gastropod fossil in a shell
pit, for example, usually means that it will be heavily weathered and
seriously damaged. Certainly, delicate features of the shell are
almost always missing. Contrary to typical quality fossil gastropods found in Florida, this is an exceptional
set of 3 specimens of sea snail fossil shells. The species in this
set are from left to right in the top photo, Turbinella Scolymoides,
Terebraspira
scalarina and Scaphella
tomscotti. All are extinct gastropods
which died out at the end of the Pliocene Period in Florida, U.S.A..
These
are uncommon species. Every specimen is complete and intact with
superb preservation. The anatomy is highly
detailed and intact.
Guaranteed NO REPAIR and NO RESTORATION.
These species are all extinct gastropods which lived and died out during the Pliocene Period
in Florida. These were predatory marine
creatures that fed
mainly on bivalves by attaching itself to its prey with its foot and
slowly rasping a hole in the shell of its unfortunate victim.
These creatures were able to move great distances and could go against tidal currents with
the use of their powerful foot.
If you want a very high-grade and stunning prehistoric sea snail fossil
collection,
we highly recommend this set. These sea snails were alive during
the last Ice Age in North America when many gigantic and bizarre beasts
walked the earth and swam in the oceans including the last days of the
giant
