MASSIVE
SPINOSAURUS
DINOSAUR TOOTH -
Tegana Formation - Kem Kem, Morocco
LATE
CRETACEOUS PERIOD: 96 - 66 million years ago
If you
have been holding out for a supreme and giant-size Spinosaurus tooth
then this may be the last opportunity to secure such a choice
specimen. It is quite discouraging what is now on the
market. In a recent check of other sellers, the few teeth we found
over 4" were either junk or were clever composites of a root from
one tooth puttied on to the crown of another specimen. The
well-known online auction site is even worse and we've yet to see a
GENUINE single, "no-tricks" large dinosaur tooth of ANY
SPECIES listed there in well over a year and a half! Lots of real
good-looking big teeth but all with serious issues not disclosed in the
text.
This
remarkable specimen is so rare that in this past year, the aggregate
efforts of all our miners produced less than a handful of teeth over
4". Of
those few found, this is the finest quality over 4" tooth
falling at the incredible size of 5" along the outside curve!
Just look at that original and complete, sharply pointed tip! Yes,
it is real! This superb investment-grade example boasts of NO
RESTORATION! All parts of this tooth are present and
complete! Minor
repairs are to clean fractures and no filler or any restoration was
needed nor applied. This is absolutely amazing to have this kind
of condition on a 3" tooth no to mention a FIVE INCH
WHOPPER!!! The surface of the enamel is AAA CHOICE! and has a
superb dense sheen and ridged detail on BOTH SIDES as shown above.
The color is a rich walnut brown and mahogany. The encrustation on
the root is only on the surface and the length of this tooth is honest
and all tooth. The jagged edge of the root end can be seen upon
close inspection ruling out any of the common trickery we see in nearly
all large teeth sold elsewhere where a tooth length is artificially
lengthened by adding a glue and sand mixture. Unlike
other dealers, we provide FULL DISCLOSURE on every specimen.
You know exactly what you are buying when you invest in one of our fossil teeth.
What is
extremely rare is that this tooth was found just this past year. Anyone
that has been shopping for Spinosaurus teeth can attest to what we have
been saying for the last several years - the formation is no longer
producing fine grade teeth in the larger sizes. We are now digging
at depths of as much as 24 meters, THREE TIMES! the previous
depths. Still, the source is practically depleted. A tooth
such as this amazingly rare example is definitely one of the most
promising investments one can make at this point in time. In the
last year of digging, the cumulative effort of many of our mining
partners produced less than 5 quality large teeth 4" and
over. This is the
ABSOLUTE FINEST OF THE LARGEST TEETH of the entire year's
efforts of 2002!!! Need we say more about what the situation
is. Since dinosaurs are long gone, things will only get worse.
A common
trick in the market is to attach either a bunch of sand mixed with glue
on the end of the tooth's root to exaggerate the length or even worse,
glue another tooth's root on to the end and disguise the seam with more
sand and glue. In either case, these look like very large teeth
but they are faked. Don't be fooled when you are shopping for ANY
large dinosaur teeth. These are common practices of both
unscrupulous and uninformed dealers. It really pays to know who
you are buying from! I see both of these practices done quite
frequently in the large tooth market and numerous junk teeth are selling
for ridiculous high prices. (ESPECIALLY in the online auctions!) The
dinosaur this specimen came from would have been the maximum size
creature known!
Teeth in this size
and this condition are
nearly priceless since very few exist to compare to. We strongly
recommend this amazing example to any collector because prizes like
these are sure to be strong investments in even the near future
considering the current state of the source and its nearly exhausted
supply of large teeth. Steady appreciation of prices in the
market have already reflected that in the last year and a half.
