SPINOSAURUS
DINOSAUR TOOTH -
Tegana Formation - Kem Kem, Morocco
LATE
CRETACEOUS PERIOD: 96 - 66 million years ago
The stout
profile and size tells us this super grade Spinosaurus tooth once
belonged to an exceptionally large dinosaur. Amazingly, the tip exhibits NO WEAR. The
supreme enamel is of an incredible warm gold, burnt orange and caramel
color. Tip is present all the way to the very sharp point!
Minor repair which does not detract and with no restoration. Unlike many large teeth on the market
that are mostly root compared to the overall length, this is an
honest-to-goodness whopper tooth that is mostly tooth above the
jaw. Many
times when an exceptionally large dinosaur tooth is offered on the
market, it has a very long root compared to the tooth portion that
existed ABOVE THE JAW. These teeth are touted as huge rarities and
passed off as "giant dinosaur teeth" when in fact, the
specimen is mostly all root, and what's worse, sometimes this root is
artificially created with resin and putty. Do not let yourself be
fooled. When you are comparing teeth, look at JUST THE PORTION
WITHOUT THE ROOT. Use this as a gauge to analyze a large size
tooth. If the price seems like a great deal for such a large tooth
and the root is half the length of the tooth or more, then it's a bad
deal and cannot be compared to a tooth with a normal root length of
about 1/3 the overall length of the tooth, or less. Teeth in this size
and of this quality
are
becoming exceedingly rare. I strongly recommend this
amazing example to any collector because prizes like these are no longer
being found and steady appreciation of prices in the market are already
reflecting that.
