SPINOSAURUS DINOSAUR TOOTH - Tegana Formation - Kem Kem, Morocco

LATE CRETACEOUS PERIOD:  96 - 66 million years ago

This true museum specimen Spinosaurus tooth is one of the largest and most beautiful I have seen.  It came from an exceptionally large Spinosaurus and features stunning enamel of a warm burnt orange, blood red and warm gold.  Unlike many large teeth on the market that are mostly root compared to the overall length, this is an honest-to-goodness whopper tooth that is mostly tooth above the jaw.

Many times when an exceptionally large dinosaur tooth is offered on the market, it has a very long root compared to the tooth portion that existed ABOVE THE JAW.  These teeth are touted as huge rarities and passed off as "giant dinosaur teeth" when in fact, the specimen is mostly all root, and what's worse, sometimes this root is artificially created with resin and putty.  Do not let yourself be fooled.  When you are comparing teeth, look at JUST THE PORTION WITHOUT THE ROOT.  Use this as a gauge to analyze a large size tooth.  If the price seems like a great deal for such a large tooth and the root is half the length of the tooth or more, then it's a bad deal and cannot be compared to a tooth with a normal root length of about 1/3 the overall length of the tooth, or less.

This is a "No Excuses" tooth.  There is not a single drawback to this magnificent specimen.  THERE IS NO REPAIR ON THIS TOOTH - ENTIRE TOOTH IS COMPLETELY INTACT!  That's right, this tooth has not been repaired or restored!  This is remarkably RARE and almost unheard of in this size.  Furthermore, the tip is sharp and pointed all the way to the end with a minute amount of natural wear.  Teeth that are not repaired carry a much higher premium.  Teeth in this size of this condition are nearly priceless since very few exist to compare to.  I strongly recommend this amazing example to any collector because prizes like these are no longer being found and steady appreciation of prices in the market are already reflecting that.  This tooth came from a lot we purchased a year ago and the lot was over 1000 teeth.  All were found over two years ago when the source produced an occasional prize like this example.  There were two teeth out of that lot of 1000+ that were the finest we have encountered.  One is sold (DT505), and this is the other one!  The days of the formation producing large, intact and choice grade teeth like this are OVER.

ONE OF THE FINEST TEETH ON THE MARKET

THE SOURCE NO LONGER PRODUCES THIS GRADE AND SIZE!  A TRUE INVESTMENT FOSSIL!!!
