HUGE SPINOSAURUS DINOSAUR TOOTH - Tegana Formation - Kem Kem, Morocco

LATE CRETACEOUS PERIOD:  96 - 66 million years ago

This GIANT Spinosaurus tooth is one of the most beautiful and perfect specimens I've seen anywhere.  It certainly is of a quality you never see in this size.  THE TIP IS PERFECT AND COMPLETE!!!   It came from an exceptionally large Spinosaurus and features breath-taking enamel of the most incredible colors.  This is an exquisite and ultra rare example from this dinosaur.  While there is some very minor professional repair done, what  you see is the entire, genuine tooth.  The tip and root are genuine and have not been fabricated; something to be careful about when you see a tooth that looks this good.  Many unscrupulous dealers sell very large teeth that have entirely recreated tips or roots in an effort to fetch higher prices by "enhancing" the true length of the tooth.

The most spectacular member of the uncommonly known family of Spinosauridae, Spinosaurus had an elaborate sail on its back.  Broad, skin-covered spines over 6 feet long projected upward from the backbone.  Two different purposes for these spines have been suggested.  The sail may have been used as a heat exchanger or it may have been a recognition feature for other Spinosaurus.

Spinosaurus was a giant, 50 feet long and weighed more than 4 tons.  The teeth of the Spinosaurus were also different from those of other carnosaurs (meat-eating lizards); they were straight rather than curved.  They had a crocodile-like lower jaw lined with medium sized teeth and probably ate smaller dinosaurs and other animals.

A Spinosaurus tooth in this condition and size is an extreme rarity and sure to gain very rapidly in value over the years.  The source formation where these teeth are found is already experiencing depletion of this quality and size of specimen.
