SIROCCOPTERYX TOOTH
- Tegana
Formation - Kem Kem, Morocco
EARLY
CRETACEOUS PERIOD: 145 - 112 million years ago
Pterosaur
remains were only recently identified in 1999 from the Mid-Cretaceous
deposits of the southern border of Morocco. To date, the only
pterosaur species named from Morocco is Siroccopteryx
moroccoensis.
With an estimated wingspan of nearly 20 feet, this anhanguerid ranks
amongst the largest pterosaurs known. There have been comparisons
of this creature to other anhanguerid species known from the Early
Cretaceous of Brazil. Only jaw fragments and teeth have been
discovered from Morocco and much has yet to be learned about this
fascinating and giant flying reptile from prehistory.
This very
rare color Siroccopteryx tooth specimen is one
of the choicest, exotic grade specimens that there is. Its
preservation and enamel colors far exceed most other teeth on the
market. The enamel
is a VERY VERY RARE white with a stunning mottling of pink, gold
and orange. THERE
IS NO REPAIR and the specimen is complete with NO RESTORATION!
The enamel surface still glistens in the light as can be seen in the
photo.
Such a rare example,
to possess every desirable trait and to be intact, is
highly desirable amongst collectors. Even the fine striations
running the length of the tooth are
still present and obvious.
