CARCHARODONTOSAURUS
DINOSAUR TOOTH
-
"Taouz" region
of the Sahara Desert, Morocco
LATE
CRETACEOUS PERIOD: 96 - 66 million years ago
When you realize that
this tooth has not been repaired nor restored and is of the size and
quality it is, it becomes hard to believe in its condition. Found approximately two years
ago, this tooth was collected during a time when the formation produced
some pretty impressive teeth compared to near depleted conditions
today. This is a VERY RARE tooth that is COMPLETELY
INTACT and it
features the highly rare BLONDE enamel that is seldom seen in teeth from
the Kem Kem. It is EVEN BETTER in person! The tooth exhibits
only minor feeding wear and the tip is complete with point and only a
small area of enamel that was worn from the dinosaur's use.
Serrations are very well preserved with some expected leading edge
feeding wear. From its more rounded cross-sectional profile and
narrower body, we can tell that this tooth came from the anterior
position of the jaw. These rare teeth are encountered much less
than teeth from further back along the sides simply because there were
fewer of them in a jaw compared to the lateral positions. There is no
restoration nor enhancement of any kind on this prize tooth.
This light tapioca
blond tooth is one of the rarest hues we encounter at the formation.
To further add to the beauty, the enamel has a beautiful grain lightly
spattered with a dark blood red pattern of color in the enamel.
Surface shows evidence of exposure but is solid and stable with fine
gloss still intact across the enamel. For a Carcharodontosaurus
tooth over 3 inches, this is a fantastic example for an advanced
collector for not only its grade but its color and position as an
anterior tooth.
