LARGE
ASSOCIATED DOUBLE MOSASAUR TEETH IN MATRIX
Khouribga, Morocco
CRETACEOUS
PERIOD: 65 million years ago
From the
phosphate mining region of Khouribga,
Morocco, this is such a unique
fossil as it is a fully prepped out matrix specimen of two associated
mosasaur teeth. We removed all surrounding matrix to expose two
teeth found exactly as they have been kept. The entire piece has
been chemically stabilized to protect it and preserve the original
position of these teeth exactly as they were found. The
main tooth is a massive specimen. Running in the opposite
direction and laying right on the side of the large tooth is a small
specimen from a different mosasaur. It is quite possible that both
teeth were the result of the larger mosasaur exhibiting cannibalism as
it ate a smaller mosasaur. Both
teeth are in superb preservation and both have
NO REPAIR AND NO
RESTORATION.
This is a genuine multiple associated fossil specimen and these teeth
were kept attached to the matrix as they were prepared to reveal the
true position as they were buried. The larger tooth is not
damaged. The worn rib running down its full length was caused by
another misaligned tooth in the creature's jaw wearing this groove as
the mosasaur ate and moved its massive jaws causing this natural
wear. This is a fascinating matrix fossil and the teeth are of the
finest quality, one being amazingly large. The scattered white
objects in the matrix are fossilized vertebrae and bones.
