Quite a claim but this specimen truly is a monster and beats the previous largest one we ever offered by a quarter of an inch extra. This measurement does not include matrix, of course. This amazing specimen is truly an INVESTMENT-CLASS RARITY and a very high grade fossil mosasaur tooth from a FULL GROWN Mosasaurus beaugei. This species is the largest identified mosasaur species from the Oulad Abdoun Basin of Morocco and the largest of six species known in the Maastrichtian phosphates of the Ganntour Basin (Morocco). This stunning tooth is complete with minor repair to cracks filled and partial color restoration but has NO FABRICATION. The entire crown is COMPLETE, authentic and a single specimen, not a composite. Tip is original and intact with crisp unworn point and has not been restored. Matrix attached to base was not figured in length calculation. Most impressive, beyond the sheer size of it, is the amazingly intact pointed tip. Usually, teeth of large predators such as mosasaurs undergo extensive damage from the bite force of the large animal and to find very large specimens with undamaged and pointed NATURAL tips is rare. If "THE MOTHER OF ALL MOSASAUR TEETH" is what you wish to boast of as you proudly display this giant in your cabinet, then you must not pass this one up! WARNING: We have seen on occasion, seemingly very large Mosasaur teeth coming up for sale that have been heavily restored with fabricated sections, tips and bases to artificially lengthen the tooth and pass off as a "large" mosasaur tooth. It is most common to see tourist teeth with fake plaster roots and these have been found in the market for many years now. Be wary of large teeth and look for natural enamel detail as well as authentic bone detail if a root is present. Above all, know your dealer and that he or she is fully aware of how to identify all types of fabrication as well as get a guarantee.
Mosasaurs

The mosasaur was a powerful swimmer who spent its entire life in the sea.
Mosasaurs had long and powerful bodies whose tails and limbs were adapted
for swimming. They probably swam by moving their long body in a
snake-like way, also using their finned tail to propel them forwards. They
steered with small, webbed feet. Mosasaurs had long heads, strong and flexible necks and hydrofoil-like limbs. Their large jaws had stabbing teeth and had a hinge in the mid-lower jaw similar to modern day constrictor snakes.
Mosasaurs ate large fish, shellfish, sharks and some ate mollusks. They lived during the same period T. rex roamed the earth. Mosasaurs can easily be considered the T. rex of the prehistoric seas! Such creatures were true hunter-killers that had no rival during their existence.

in the second half of the 1700's, geologists made a remarkable discovery
near the southernmost city of the Netherlands. A huge skull
was unearthed belonging to a gigantic reptile which had lived 65 million
years ago in the waters around what is now Maastricht. The creature was
later named the mosasaur, meaning ‘lizard of the Meuse or Maas river'. 
This enabled them to swallow huge prey.
