ULTRA RARE LARGE PORTION OF FOSSILIZED HADROSAUR BODY PART WITH SKIN LAYERS AND BONE

Hell Creek Formation - Dawson Country, Montana, U.S.A.

LATE CRETACEOUS PERIOD:  96 - 66 million years ago

Dinosaur skin fossils are extremely rare.  Most pieces that reach the market are NEGATIVE impression of the skin surface and not the actual skin or a positive of it.  Furthermore, due to the extreme value and rarity, most prospectors and fossil hunters will break the pieces up and sell the pieces for hundreds of dollars for small (one to two inches), poor quality and one-sided impressions.  To our recollection, at the time of this posting, this is the largest ACTUAL DINOSAUR BODY PART ever offered for sale to the public.  It is from a hadrosaurid dinosaur but attributing to a specific species is not scientifically possible so we can only classify it as HADROSAUR.  Imagine reaching under the dinosaur's arm and grabbing a fold of skin.  This is what the piece is - an actual 3D portion of the dinosaur's body.  It seems as if the creature was partially eaten or rotted just prior to burial as there is also an associated bone laying on top of the skin fold which appears to be the end of a rib.  There is a considerable portion of the body part with BOTH sides of dinosaur skin still in the matrix.  We decided it was best left this way because the bone is laying on top of one partially encased side.  Also, if any researcher were to wish to uncover pristine fossilized skin and tissue themselves, a portion still remains for that purpose.

We all see teeth and bones of dinosaurs for sale.  On occasion, a tiny and boring looking fragment of skin is offered but never the THREE-DIMENSIONAL body part of a dinosaur with skin and bone!!!  The fortunate owner of this ULTRA RARE fossil dinosaur body part will be able to proudly display and demonstrate to all viewers just what the skin of a dinosaur looked like!  Pebbled surface on one side is akin to an old-fashioned pigskin football.  Larger pebbled pattern is seen on the other side running down into the matrix.  This is a difficult piece to grasp in the photos and physical inspection in person is utterly amazing to see what cannot be effectively shown in the above images.  Rest assured, this amazing fossil is far better than in the photographs!

Entire specimen is 100% natural and as found!  NO REPAIR, NO RESTORATION, NO PAINT OR ENHANCEMENT.

For the dinosaur fossil enthusiast, it doesn't get more unique and rare as this!  VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Hadrosaurs were herbivores (plant-eaters) and only had teeth in the cheek area, not the front of the mouth.  The many rows of teeth were perfect for effectively grinding up rough vegetation for easy digestion.  This unique group of dinosaurs grew in sizes over 40 feet and probably weighed over 5 tons!  In-depth studies of a variety of duckbill remains indicate that these were strictly land-based dinosaurs that walked predominantly on all fours but had the ability to stand on their hind legs.

Hadrosaur remains have been found in China, North America, South America (Argentina) and Europe.
