SPINOSAURUS
TOE BONE (PHALANGE) -
Tegana Formation - Kem Kem, Morocco
LATE CRETACEOUS PERIOD: 96
- 66 million years ago Compared
to teeth, complete bones from large carnivorous dinosaurs are a true
fossil rarity. A dinosaur shed thousands of teeth in a lifetime in
the same manner as sharks do but a dinosaur only had a single bone of
each type and position in their skeleton. To find a complete or
near complete specimen is extremely rare! An average condition
bone far exceeds the rarity that a choice grade tooth represents simply
because of the logistics of the possible quantities. This
genuine fossil bone is from the foot of a Spinosaurus and is one of the
phalanx bones proceeding the toe claw. It is in the finest
condition and exhibits the most beautiful salmon pink color and grain
that we have ever encountered in a dinosaur bone. The lines
running down the length are not open cracks but are IN the bone as a
wonderful grain. This gem is complete and boasts of NO
RESTORATION! A
fine hairline fracture to the posterior has been stabilized and does not
detract from the rare find that this bone represents. The surface
is incredibly well mineralized and has not been painted with a clear
gloss despite its smooth surface sheen - that is a 100% NATURAL finish
and is "as found"!!! In
today's market, quality Spinosaurus teeth are rare but quality complete
bones are far more rare. This near perfect specimen is a bargain
at the price of a fine quality tooth despite it being far more rare.
A full YEAR of collecting yielded only this one specimen! Its
condition represents the BEST dinosaur toe bone we have ever had. A
CHOICE GRADE RARE SPINOSAURUS FOSSIL BONE FOR THE PRICE OF A MORE
COMMON TOOTH!
