ULTRA RARE
NON-MINERALIZED
JURASSIC WOOD WITH AMMONITES
- Braunschweig, Germany
EARLY
JURASSIC PERIOD (LIAS): 206 - 180 million years ago
This
is the first instance we have ever heard of such a fossil
specimen being made available for sale to the public. The above
specimen shows ammonites (Harpoceras and Dactylioceras)
with a piece of 200+
million year wood that has survived WITHOUT MINERALIZATION!
In the process of
looking for ammonites, a layer in the formation was split and this block
had a air pocket in the rock with original Jurassic wood pressed flat
from burial but kept intact without petrification like most
fossil wood. Due to the extreme frailty of the wood, we have
stabilized it with a chemical hardener (that can be reversed) in order
to make the entire piece safe to display. The ammonite impressions
found with the wood show beautiful detail, especially the Harpoceras.
It is
a very rare occurrence to have prehistoric organic remains
survive without any mineralization. It is safe to say you probably
will never see an offering like this again. The
centerpiece for the ultimate fossil petrified wood collection and
definitely worthy of public exhibition.
This 200 million year wood
can still be burned!!!!
A chunk of the ocean floor from the
Early Jurassic where these beautiful ancient
marine invertebrates thrived amongst large plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs.
Perfect to accompany any advanced fossil wood collection as well as a
well-rounded ammonite display. Rare!!!
