ANDROGYNOCERAS
AMMONITES IN MATRIX
Boimstorf/Lehre
near Braunschweig, Germany
EARLY
JURASSIC PERIOD (LIAS): 206 - 180 million years ago
This
unique multiple Androgynoceras maculatum ammonite specimen was
collected during the construction of a highway near Braunschweig,
Germany. The layer where this specimen was found was exposed
during the site excavation. This is a unique and rare opportunity
to acquire a specimen such as this as the layer is not accessible to
collecting outside of such a project and these fossils are not mined nor
available in any ordinary commercial manner.
This is a
very unique example as it shows three fossil ammonites each displaying
all three forms in which ammonite fossils can occur - outer shell
preserved, inner chamber preserved and negative imprint of an ammonite
in the matrix. All fossil ammonites are in remarkably intact
condition and sport a full mineralization with rich coloration. The
original matrix in which it was found is still attached. The smallest
ammonite shows all the chambers preserved and intact as seen in the last
image.
