EXTREMELY RARE AND MASSIVE PUZOSIA AMMONITE - Dortmund, Germany

UPPER CRETACEOUS (TURONIAN) PERIOD:  93.3 - 88.7 million years ago

Where can we start with this one?  This is a very exclusive offering and most definitely will not be repeated.  This R-A-R-E monster Puzosia species ammonite from the Late Cretaceous was discovered recently during the construction of a German federal highway passing through Dortmund.  It has just come out of final preparation in our lab and with much anticipation, is now available.  Despite its size and nature in which it was found, it has amazingly avoided breakage and is INTACT with NO REPAIR and NO RESTORATION NOR FABRICATION.

Never before have we offered such an ammonite of this rarity with these massive proportions.  It possesses so many features that put it in a class all its own.  Most likely, there is nothing that can compare to it that is or has been available to the public for private sale in at least a decade if not more.  Its centrum is complete and natural with no carving or reconstruction.  As mentioned previously, it is complete and unbroken.  Most interesting are two features: the natural hunter green mineralization across the entire body of the creature and the fossilized secretions of prehistoric oysters that had attached themselves to the shell after the ammonite had died and was laying on the bottom of the Cretaceous sea floor prior to final burial and the subsequent fossilization process.  These secretions are shown in the close-up images and are gorgeous with solid mineralization in a natural olive green hue.  This odd feature was also found on a couple of giant ammonites from a world-famous discovery of a death assemblage of large ammonites found in Northwest Germany in the past.  Also shown in the second last image is an extreme close-up of the body of this giant ammonite where numerous small marine creatures had been living inside the shell after the ammonite died and they then too, became fossilized in the process.

In size, rarity, quality and provenance, this specimen EXCEEDS what most world museums have catalogued in their inventories.   For the most demanding and advanced collector, this fossil poses an extremely rare opportunity to acquire an investment-grade example of immeasurable value and rarity!  Our hopes are that its prospective owner would place this specimen on long-term loan with a well-established museum.
